Nifty Realty index was up nearly one per cent, followed by Nifty Metal index which gained half a per cent.

BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 were trading at record high levels ahead of the expiry of December series derivative contracts later in the day. BSE Sensex hit an all-time high of 47860.3, while the broader Nifty 50 index crossed the crucial 14,000 level. Top Sensex gainers were ONGC, Bajaj Finance, Titan Company, Dr Reddy’s Lab, Reliance Industries Ltd ( RIL), Bajaj Finsv and ICICI Bank. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 14 scrips were trading in the red, led by State Bank of India ( SBI). The other laggards on the pack were Nestle India, UltraTech Cement, TCS, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HUL, Kotak Mahindra Bank. Barring Nifty FMCG and Nifty IT indices, all the sectoral indices were trading in the positive territory. Nifty Realty index was up nearly one per cent, followed by Nifty Metal index which gained half a per cent. The stock market in Japan and South Korea remained closed on Thursday for a holiday.
If 2020 was a rollercoaster ride for investors, the New Year may be no different. Any reversal in liquidity could trigger a sharp reversal in the markets. Market strategists anticipate that the recovery in the economy that is expected to play out next year will give a boost to the equity markets along with the upgrades in corporate earnings.
