Besides houses near the rivers, the flood washed away a BRO bridge and two power projects — Rishi Ganga Power Projects and NTPC’s 480 MW Tapovan-Vishnugad Project
At least 26 bodies have been recovered and 171 people are still missing in the debris created by flood mountain waters carrying slush and silt in the lower region. Operation is still underway to rescue 30 people trapped in a tunnel at a power project site.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi got emotional while bidding adieu to Congress leader in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, who retires today from the Upper House. Sharing an incident when Azad was the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi broke down in the House. “I will never forget Shri Azad’s efforts and Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s efforts when people from Gujarat were stuck in Kashmir due to a terror attack. Ghulam Nabi Ji was constantly following up, he sounded as concerned as if those stuck were his own family members,” Prime Minister Modi said.
